You will also notice the thick hedge around two sides of the yards. To the left of the driveway is a hill, and on top of that hill were train tracks and then more hills. While Run 'n Hide worked on the trees in the yard (which I have not fully illustrated), I went to work on the hedge closest to the driveway. As I was working, I could see the headlights of a car coming up from behind me. Run 'n Hide took off across the driveway, up the hill, and over the train tracks. I said to myself, "Geez, why you gotta be such a fraidy cat?" or something like that, and kept neatly wrapping the bush I was working on. The car got closer, so I froze. Then the car stopped, so I laid down in the snow-covered gravel. Do you remember that I was wearing an orange coat? Then someone got out of the car and said, "I think she's dead." I thought to myself, "Self, you probably better move.

Right or wrong? What do you think? If Coach Tony Barbee doesn't have some real good players coming in next season, UTEP's basketball program will be in its biggest swoon in more than 50 years. Under Don Haskins (1961-1999) the Miners were never this bad — ever. This year's team has lost six of its last seven games in the clutch part of the season to fall to 13-13. There was the 6-24 season in 2002-03, Billy Gillispie's first after taking over for Jason Rabedeaux. But Gillispie had the Miners in the NCAA the next year and then he went to Texas A&M. He built a strong UTEP program in his two years, and left it to Doc Sadler. This year's Miners are not improving and might not finish with a winning record. They are Doc Sadler's players. He went to two straight post-season tournaments (with Gillispie's players) and left the program dry when he went to Nebraska in time for this season. He didn't build the program. No height. Little experience. The offense is street ball, but at least there's an effort on defense. Now Barbee comes in and suffers the consequences. And now Barbee will have to pull a Gillispie with his first batch of recruits. No time. No "give the man a chance." These three Barbee recruits had better be good: Manual Cass, 6-foot-7, 215 pounds. Randy Culpepper, 5-10, 145 and Wayne Portalatin, 6-10, affiliate programs earn cash 50. The good news: Conference USA is one of the nation's weakest in Division I. Just two or three good players can make you No. 2 behind Memphis in just one season's time.
